Community involvement in international education plan

Published in News

Members of our local community are urged to become involved in the development of a long term International Education and Research Industry Action Plan by the NSW Government.

Charles said that due to our cultural diversity the residents of Strathfield would be well placed to contribute to the discussion.

"We are lucky in this area in that we have many International students and families from countries such as India, China, South Korea and many others who choose to call Strathfield home," Charles said.

"Education and research are critically important to our future prosperity and this includes our successful international engagement with the local economy.

"It is vital that our education and research sector continue to prosper. For that to occur the international students that visit us must enjoy their time here so that they stay longer as well as recommending Strathfield as a great place to live and study to those back in their home country.

The Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner MP said that those in NSW had a lot to be proud of when it came to welcoming international students.

"More than 200,000 International students choose Sydney and NSW for their studies every year," Mr Stoner said. "More than any other Australian State.

"The International Education and Research Action Plan will build on our already strong international reputation for internationally respected qualifications, works class research and teaching, cultural diversity and safe environment."

Submissions for consideration by the NSW International Education and Research Industry Taskforce could be made via the "Have Your Say" website: http://haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/iap-education

Formal submissions addressing the Taskforce's Terms of Reference, which are available on the website can be made until 25 March 2012.
